What’s in a Name…

The name Bee In The Lotus came to me after a meditation, during a peaceful early summer walk with Flynn—my beloved Golden Working Cocker, who crossed the rainbow bridge in 2023. That moment felt like a whisper from the universe, blending my love for bees, lotus flowers & the deep symbolism they both carry.

I’ve always felt a special connection to bees. In the warmer months, you’ll often find me holding, stroking, gently rescuing them, feeding them, or simply admiring their quiet wisdom.

Bees hold great importance in nature. Their symbolism can be related to many things though various religions, from fertility & sexuality to freedom & industriousness. The ancient civilisations saw the bee as a symbol of the sun, a representation of the goddess, community & celebration.

Representing purpose, perseverance & the art of knowing when to rest, they remind us to refocus, to realign & to live with intention.

The Lotus - a flower so close to my heart. I first fell in love with this sacred flower during my honeymoon in Thailand. I was mesmerised by them as they sat floating atop the water - always reminds me of resilience. In many Eastern cultures it is a strong symbol of rebirth, regeneration & awakening.

From the depths of darkness, where its roots lie buried in thick, unseen mud, the lotus rises - somehow unfolding gracefully toward the light, untouched in its purity - a living testament to the power of transformation. Though the mud of life may often feel heavy, inescapable - even permanent, it is that very darkness that shapes us, nourishes us & gives rise to our blossoming. Without the mud, there can be no bloom. As Thich Nhat Hanh so beautifully reminds us: “No mud, no lotus.”

For me, ‘Bee In The Lotus’ symbolises our own healing journey...Like the lotus, we grow through darkness, challenges & transformation & we bloom. Like the bee, we stay devoted to the work, knowing when to act & when to rest.

Together, they remind us that we are not alone in our becoming. We are part of the bigger picture - Each of us doing the sacred work of healing, not only for ourselves, but in harmony with one another & for the greater good.

And what better place for a bee to rest, reflect & bask in the sunshine of its journey… than in the beautiful heart of a lotus

flower!
